The skin tag will then fall off from the stalk within a few days and can drop off on its own or be gently peeled off. This can take anywhere from a few days for small skin tags to a couple of weeks for larger skin tags, especially those with deeper roots.

This method uses a small plasma arc which is then focused onto the skin to produce a precise amount of heat at the point where the arc meets the skin. This heat is then directed at the tissue of the unwanted skin tag. Once the tissue has dried the skin tag falls off in a small crust of dried skin which should be left to fall off naturally. Any remaining pieces of skin can then be easily removed with a small scalpel.
When to use CryoPen and when to use Plasma Fibroblast – what are the differences? Generally smaller tags are best suited for removal with CryoPen, but also really great for removing lots of tags. Larger tags are generally best for removal with Plasma Fibroblast however both treatments are suitable for all skin types and will be recommended by us in your individual case.
What Happens During the Appointment?
The area will be cleaned with an antiseptic solution prior to treatment and you will be explained the process of removal. Most skin tags are removed one at a time but in some cases more than one area can be treated within a short space of time. There can be a slight sting or burn similar to having a splinter removed but this is short lived in most cases and in some cases there is no sensation at all.
You should keep the treated area clean and allow it to dry for 24 hours. It is also important to keep the area free from any areas of friction such as tight clothing or jewellery. Also avoid shaving, exfoliating or any other skin care treatments in the area for 24 hours.
Healing and Expected Results
Skin tag removal treatment creates a small, controlled wound in the skin. The skin then needs time to mend and during this time your skin may appear red, sore and crusty. The treated area of skin may also change colour for a short time but once the skin has completely healed the area where the skin tag was will be completely flat.
Once the tag has fallen off the area will be smooth and flat. However, there is no guarantee that there will be no scarring or marks left. Some people’s skin is very sensitive and can become red and inflamed from the treatment.
Can Skin Tags Return?
A skin tag that has been removed from one area of the body is highly unlikely to grow back in the same area, but skin tags can and do grow back in other places on the body. People who have naturally a lot of skin tags are likely to continue to get more in areas where there is friction on the skin and in skin folds. Removing skin tags is for treating the individual skin tags that have already grown, it won’t stop any more from growing.
